Choosing the Right Foundation for Your Hoop Building - Ackerman's Equipment
Select Page

When constructing a hoop building, many people focus on the structure itself—the frame, the cover, and the dimensions. But what often gets overlooked is the critical element that supports everything else—the foundation. The right foundation is more than just a base; it’s essential for ensuring longevity, functionality, and safety. With five distinct foundation types to choose from, we can help you select the perfect base for your project so your hoop building remains reliable for years to come.

Block Foundation

Ackerman’s offers two types of blocks—Deluxe and Economy. Both are durable and long-lasting, but there are some differences. Economy blocks may have minor discolorations but are still strong and reliable. For a more polished look, Deluxe blocks are a great choice. While this foundation requires more site preparation than a post foundation, including removing topsoil and adding gravel, it is worth the effort. Unlike wood, block foundations won’t rot, providing you with a sturdy and maintenance-free base for many years.

Precast T-Walls

Precast T-Walls are made from reinforced concrete, offering exceptional strength and durability. They share similar qualities with block foundations in terms of quality. Additionally, hoop buildings with block or precast T-wall foundations are often exempt from property taxes, making them a cost-effective option in the long run.

Posts with Treated Tongue & Groove- Best Seller

Our most popular foundation option, the treated tongue and groove, offers a blend of strength and aesthetic appeal. The interlocking sideboards are treated to resist moisture, decay, and pests, extending the life of your building. This foundation is particularly well-suited for livestock, with the flexibility to install posts on the inside or outside of the sideboards. For added stability, posts can be spaced every six feet instead of the standard twelve if desired.

Steel siding foundations are ideal for equipment and hay storage. This option is not typically used for livestock but is visually appealing and practical. Poles are usually spaced twelve feet apart and are placed on the inside of the steel panels.

Posts Only

For a simple and cost-effective solution, consider a post-only foundation. This system is best suited for situations where air circulation is acceptable, such as for equipment or hay storage.
